Dental Crowns & Bridges in Belleville
Your Belleville dentist may recommend a dental crown or bridge to help repair a cracked or damaged tooth.
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is used to cover or "cap" a damaged tooth to give it structure and support. A crown can also be used to improve the appearance, shape or alignment of a tooth. We may recommend a crown as a replacement option to cover an implant. Typically, we use porcelain or ceramic crowns for front or visible teeth in your mouth, as this material can be used to closely match the colour of your natural teeth. For your back or molar teeth, we may use stronger materials including gold, acrylic and ceramic.
How does the dental crown procedure work?
We offer CEREC, which is a technology that allows us to produce your crown within a single appointment. Our dentists will use 3D imaging to create a digital impression of your teeth, then CEREC is used to create the crown without using a mold.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge may be used to replace one or more teeth by attaching to the teeth on either side. The placement of a dental bridge can help fill a gap between teeth to create a full smile. We may also recommend a dental bridge as a space maintainer, to prevent your natural teeth from shifting in place of a missing tooth.
Our dentist may recommend a crown for a patient to:
- Replace a large filling when most of the tooth is missing
- Protect a weak tooth from fracture
- Restore a fractured tooth
- Attach a bridge
- Cover a dental implant
- Cover a discolored or misshapen tooth
- Cover a tooth following a root canal treatment
